Kybella

Kybella is a non-surgical injectable for reducing moderate to severe fat below the chin, the area commonly known as a "double chin." The injection contains a naturally occurring substance in the body, deoxycholic acid, which helps the body absorb fat cells. When properly injected, Kybella destroys fat cells. Approved by the FDA in 2015, Kythera Biopharmaceuticals’ drug (which has since been acquired by Allergan) hit the market as an alternative to liposuction or surgery, using a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid—a salt found in human bile that aids fat digestion—to destroy fat cells.

How it works

In the digestive tract, deoxycholic acid breaks down fat by destroying the cell membrane. When injected into subcutaneous fat, this cytolytic drug does the same thing—in targeted locations. The dissolved fat is now cellular debris, and gets cleared into the lymphatic and circulatory systems by specialized immunologic cells. This happens gradually over the span of several weeks. As for the deoxycholic acid, it follows the same path; it gets metabolized and broken down, and then excreted as waste. With Kybella, you can eliminate the need for liposuction or other invasive fat-elimination techniques. Through a series of injections, Kybella mimics the body's natural fat-absorption process and leaves you with a sleek and slim chin area that's picture perfect.

Ultherapy

Tighten your facial skin. Look 10 years with Ultherapy.  Ultherapy is a nonsurgical procedure that tightens skin on the face and neck. Call us to learn more about how we can help you choose the best treatment to give you a more youthful appearance. Ultherapy uses ultrasound rays to stimulate the production of collagen which is the body's own skin repair/skin tightening agent. It lifts the eyebrows, neck and under the chin. Ultherapy has been approved by the FDA. We have board certified to help you tighten your skin and look your best.

The treatment:

In Ultherapy treatment, ultrasound waves are pressed against the skin with a hand held device which allows for deep penetration of the skin and stimulates the production of collagen, the body's natural skin tightening agent. Ultrasound therapy is different from laser light therapy in that ultrasound can go deeper into the skin than laser spectrum light, without causing damage. Treatments last 60-90 minutes for the face and neck. Approximately 30 minutes for the chest. Typically only one treatment is required. However, as the skin ages additional treatments may be desired to maintain your appearance. Consult with your dermatologist for the best plan for you. [caption id="attachment_856" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Ultherapy: Before and after Ultherapy: Before and after[/caption]

Am I a good candidate for Ultherapy treatment?

If you have loose skin around your eyebrows, neck, under the chin, face, and decolletage (the low neckline just below the clavicle or collar bone.) then you may be a good candidate for Ultherapy. Ultherapy is for older people with sagging skin. It generally is not used to correct blemishes, acne scars or scars in general.

Post-treatment expectations

You should expect tighter skin and a more youthful appearance. Directly after the treatment there may be some redness but this should disappear after a few hours. There may also be some slight swelling and tenderness to the touch. These symptoms are usually temporary. If they persist contact your dermatologist immediately. There is no downtime after Ultherapy treatment, so you can resume your daily routine immediately.

Cost

Ultherapy treatment costs range from $2000-$3000 for one session. Usually only one session is needed to achieve positive results. Mole Removal

Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure with multiple stages. The actual laser hair removal treatment is done in small pulses. You may experience small stinging sensations depending on the sensitivity of the area you’re receiving the treatment. The length of the procedure depends on many factors such as the size of location as well as the thickness and amount of hair. Your provider will observe your skin for a few minutes afterwards to make sure there are no bad reactions. You will then be given ice packs and usually some kind of anti-inflammatory lotion or cold water compress to soothe discomfort. To prepare for laser hair removal avoid plucking and waxing. Laser hair removal targets the roots of the hair, and removing them may result in an ineffective procedure. You should also avoid sun exposure for the same amount of time. It may lessen the effect of laser hair removal and possibly cause complications afterwards. Laser hair removal treatment is done again in 4-6 weeks and repeated until the hair stops growing.  Blistering, skin discoloration and permanent scarring is uncommon.

Moles

The ABCDE’s of melanoma are important to watch out for: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variability, Diameter larger than a pencil eraser, and Evolution (or change over time.) Benign moles may sometimes become bothersome due to irritation or tenderness. Clothing or hair brushing may irritate moles located in the underarms or on the scalp. There are multiple methods for removal best discussed in person; these range from superficial shave removals to excisions using deep and superficial sutures. Depending on the lesion or location, stitches may or may not be necessary. Following standard of care protocols, all removed moles are submitted for analysis to rule out the possibility of skin cancer. Microdermabrasion

Look 10 years younger. Tighten your skin. Eliminate blemishes. Look younger with a dermabrasion or microdermabrasion. Dermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure which exfoliates (takes off) the Stratum Corneum (the top layer of skin) with an abrasive scrubbing tool. Once removed, the remaining skin rejuvenates with skin that is usually smoother, clearer and tighter than before. Dermabrasions go deep below the skin's top layer and thus are performed under the care of a board certified dermatologist Microdermabrasions are similar, but are a cosmetic form of dermabrasions because microdermabrasions do not remove as much of the Stratum Corneum. There is less risk of skin damage with a microdermabrasion. Thus, it can be performed by a clinician at a “medi-spa”. Every year, 23,000 women get dermabrasions and about 4,500 men. Whereas over 452,000 women and 28,000 men get microdermabrasions. Microdermabrasions treatments produce fantastic results.

Treatment:

To perform, both the microdermabrasion and dermabrasions are safe, the clinician uses a handheld device with a spinning wheel and rough surface. This abrasive tool is then rubbed on the surface of your face which removes the upper layer of skin. The tool is very similar to sandpaper but various surfaces are used. The resurfacing of the skin can be cause discomfort during the procedure. Specific areas can be targeted or the procedure can be applied over the entire face. Microdermabrasion The micro dermabrasion can be administered by an aesthetician or even at a spa. However, a dermabrasion is a much deeper removal of the top layer of skin and must be performed by a board-certified dermatologist/physician. Below is a quick video that compares microdermabrasions and chemical peels.

What conditions are treated?

Am I good candidate?

You are a good candidate for a dermabrasion if you have sun-dried skin, uneven or blotchy skin, scars, facial wrinkles, acne scars, pits and discoloration.

Post-treatment expectations

During and after the procedure your face will likely feel stiff and tight. It will be visually alarming with the bruises produced by the rubbing off the top layer of skin. Some people look as if they have been in a very bad fist fight or car accident. Avoid the temptation to panic. As seen in the before and after photos, your face will heal smoother and tighter than before. You may also experience tightness, as the under layer of skin is slightly less elastic then the Stratum Corneum, the top layer. Your skin will also be slightly red and or swollen. The clinician will likely prescribed an ointment to be applied after the procedure for the pain and swelling. If you experience long lasting pain or extreme pain then you should contact your physician to find out if your pain is normal or part of a bigger problem.
 Post Treatment Expectation
Dermabrasion recovery takes about 7 to 10 days for new skin to form. After six weeks the redness will have subsided and you'll see the results of the treatment. Initially, you should avoid direct sun, swimming and any strenuous physical activity. Adverse reactions include hematoma or sir, which is blood under your skin, infections, bleeding, scarring, damage to underlying skin and skin sensitivity to microdermabrasions. Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure and does not require any down time. You can resume your daily routine immediately after the microdermabrasion treatment. microdermabrasion

Cost

A dermabrasion goes much deeper to resurface your skin down to the college in layer. The downtime is approximately 10 days and this procedure must be performed by a physician. The cost ranges between $1,800-$3,000. The microdermabrasion procedures produces fantastic results. A microdermabrasion cost is typically $150-$300, depending upon the size of the area treated. It is typically performed by aestheticians and doesn't require board certified medical care. Because dermabrasions and microdermabrasions are an elective procedure, most medical insurances do not cover the cost. However, if it can be shown that it is the prescribed treatment for precancerous cells or some other skin ailment it may be covered through insurance. Consult with your physician to see if your circumstances could be covered by medical insurance. Eczema

CoolScuplting

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that freeze and destroys fat below the surface of the skin. It is applied with a hand held device. Patience can experience some weight loss but it it's purpose is more to contour the shape in combination with a healthy diet and exercise. Men and women can be good candidates for CoolSculpting. The procedure uses cool temperatures so you should not undergo the procedure if you cryoglobulinemia, paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, or cold agglutinin disease. Some plastic surgeons and dermatologist use CoolSculpting in combination with other body contouring procedures like liposuction. Ask your physician which options are best for the cosmetic goals you are trying to accomplish.

The procedure

The treatment area will be pinched into the CoolSculpting applicator. You should not feel pain, only some pressure and suction for the first few minutes of the treatment. After that, the target area will become numb to the cold. The treatment will last roughly 60 minutes, during which you can read, check email, watch a movie, or even nap. After the applicator process if it feels like there is “extra love handles underneath the skin” this fat will be sucked up by the applicator. Your provider will massage the site, and the lump should quickly disappear. As this is a no-downtime procedure, you’ll be free to continue with your regular activities right away.

What happens to the fat?

The fat cells are removed permanently. As adults, we don’t produce new fat cells, so the number of cells destroyed and removed from the body remains permanent. That said, when we gain weight, our fat cells expand. Gaining weight after CoolSculpting could still mean an increase in the size of the remaining fat cells.

What the difference between liposuction and Coolsculpting?

Liposuction can produce dramatic results and sometime requires general anesthesia. Coolsculpting does not require anesthesia but produces less dramatic results.

[caption id="attachment_722" align="alignleft" width="300"]Chemical Peel: Before and after Chemical Peel: Before and after[/caption] Once removed, the layer of skin below replaces the removed layer with skin that is usually smoother, clearer and tighter. Mild and medium peels can be administered by an aesthetician. Deep chemical peels can only be performed by a board certified dermatologist, physician or plastic surgeon and members of members of dermatology associations About 413,000 women and 31,000 men have chemical peels to clear up their skin. Below are the different types of chemical peels. In all cases, the face is washed and then the solution is applied with a smooth and consistent layer, then removed after a predetermined time or appearance. The treatment is approved by the American Dermatological Association . Chemical peels are performed under a variety of treatments and goals. Alpha hydroxy acid peels Alpha hydroxy acid (AHAs) are naturally occurring carboxylic acid found in sugar cane juice and lactic acid, found in sour milk and tomato juice. This is the mildest of the peel formulas and produces light peels for treatment of fine wrinkles, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne. Beta hydroxy acid peels Beta hydroxy acid peels can go deeper into the pores than AHA peels. Studies show that BHA peels control sebum excretion, which further helps relieve persistent acne from reappearing. Chemical peels can achieve fantastic results. Retinoic acid peel Retinoic peel is a facial peel that is also performed in the office of a plastic surgeon, or a dermatologist. This is a deeper peel than the BHA or AHA peels and is used to remove scars as well as wrinkles and pigmentation problems. The client leaves with the chemical peel solution on their face. The peeling process takes place on the third day. More dramatic changes to the skin require multiple peels over time. Croton oil / Phenol peel Formerly known as a phenol peel is a deep chemical peel, which deeply resurfaces the skin by removing the Stratum Corneum (top layer) and eventually results in regeneration of the dermal architecture, effectively restoring younger dermis in a way that cannot be replicated by other, more superficial peels. It is performed under the care of a physician and sometimes requires general anesthesia or sedation. Consult with your dermatologist or plastic surgeon for the best plan for your individual situation.

Am I a good candidate for a chemical peel?

Post-treatment expectations

You may experience peeling, soreness, discolored and blotchy skin before the new skin begins to heal in the place of the removed layer of skin. With deep peels your face may be visually alarming after a few days, but as the skin heals a smoother more youthful look will emerge. This can take 7 to 10 days, which will feel like a long time, but resist the urge to panic. During this time swimming and strenuous activities should be avoided. With light and mild peels there is no recovery required so you can resume your daily routines immediately after the procedure.

Averse reactions to chemical peels

Negative reactions do not occur often. Consult with a board certified dermatologist on risks specific to you and the chemical peel you are considering. Generally, negative reactions to chemical peels include: hematoma or Sarama "accumulation of blood under the skin" which may require removal. Infection, bleeding, skin sensitivity, inconsistent coloration, tiny whiteheads. For more information, click here

Cost

Deep chemical peels typically cost between $1500-$3000, depending upon the size of the area treated. Because these peels are done under a physician's care they can be a bit more expensive. Most insurance does not cover the cost. However, if it is prescribed for a medical condition such as, to treat precancerous skin condition or improve designated scars, coverage may be available. Consult with your medical service provider if you believe this situation applies to you. Skin Tag Removal
